Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) was incorporated in November 2005. TCN emerged from the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) as a product of the merger of the Transmission and Operations sectors on April 1, 2004.
Being one of the 18 unbundled Business Units under the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), the company was issued a transmission License on 1st July, 2006. TCN licensed activities include: electricity transmission, system operation and electricity trading which is ring fenced.

The Interim Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed, has commended the Managements of Power Generating Companies for deploying Free Governor Control mechanisms in their power plants which have resulted in improved grid stability and reliability.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has increased transformer capacity in its Ajah substation with additional 60MVA, bringing the substation capacity to 220MVA from 160MVA, even as on-going works to bring back to service another 60MVA power transformer in the substation has reached advanced stage.
